I think you're spot-on in recommending Never Let Me Go as an adult YA novel. It's so well written and compelling, and focused on how these characters grow up (especially considering their fate). I loved it, and I think it would be a great crossover for older teens and adults who like the YA genre.

Also, not at all YA, but Ishiguro's "Remains of the Day" is heartbreaking.

This one is on my list to read. The premise intrigued me greatly, and after I (inadvertently) saw the movie, I was even more intrigued. I'm sure the book is much, much better than the movie, which was good...and disturbing. I look forward to reading it.

The cover creeps me out so much-I can't even really look at it just because of the blood tear.

My favorite parts of this book also involved Kanin and I hope we'll be seeing more of him in the sequel. But I mostly liked the latter half. It was the very beginning (pre-transformation) that was slow and didn't work for me. Everything after was fine.

I have to admit I'm not a fan of the cover either. I literally just wrote a paper for one of my classes on the whitewashing of book covers, and it always annoys me so much! Still, it's not the author's fault, and I found Julie's debut series to be enjoyable, so I'm curious to see what she'll do with her second one. Thanks for the review! :)

I hate the cover. Hate, hate, hate. And in real life, it has the WORST TEXTURE EVER. It feels gritty and dirty :S it made me feel kind of sick just touching it in the book store. If I ever read this (which I don't think I will, since I hated The Iron King), it'll have to be ebook.

I like that Kagawa's vampires don't sparkle either and that she quickly enforced the notion that vampires ARE monsters. I agree about the book faltering with the humans too, they just weren't compelling to me and I much preferred her with Kanin. ALSO WORD TO YOUR COVER DISCUSSION!!!! It would have been SO EASY to get an Asian model, WHY?! I never even noticed that about the tear but now it's going to annoy me too. Ugh.

I got a review request for a self-pubbed book that I took the author up on and that is a rare thing for me. They were polite, professional, they spelled my name right, they followed my review policy to a tee, and gave a sample that convinced me that I really did want to read it. I was SO impressed.
