The retellings do need to have characters follow the same general paths and decisions as the original, but there needs to be more of a reason why than simply that the progression of the source material is that way. That's a really good way to analyze retellings. I had a similar issues with For Darkness Shows the Stars. I'm thinking that I won't be putting Ironskin on my TBR list. I've been looking forward to this one for a while actually, so I may just have to read it! I've never read Jane Eyre (which I really should remedy).Alexa S.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13185723439360170259noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1214401809446305406.post-50089555067190908212012-10-01T16:43:57.230-04:002012-10-01T16:43:57.230-04:00Hmm, I loved Jane Eyre so I'll have to look fu...Hmm, I loved Jane Eyre so I'll have to look further into it. I'm not really sure how a fantasy retelling of Jane Eyre would work and it doesn't seem like it worked.

Crazy Red PenJessicahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05049528405493946804noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1214401809446305406.post-89218134278420901072012-10-01T11:42:57.568-04:002012-10-01T11:42:57.568-04:00I'll still read it - I'm one of those JE f...I'll still read it - I'm one of those JE fangirls - but I can't sense it being as fabulous as I hoped.Nicolehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11328384082190196899noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1214401809446305406.post-58395077099433716222012-10-01T11:18:03.967-04:002012-10-01T11:18:03.967-04:00Sounds like a strange read. I think it sounds interesting enough to read, but I sometimes wish that retellings would only use their source material as a base, but not stick strickly to it. I think there's a different between retelling and using the story as inspiration to create something entirely different with elements pulled from its source material.

I was wondering what you thought of the Lizzie Bennett Diaries considering it's source material.
