In My Mailbox (6)

In My Mailbox is hosted by the lovely Kristi. Head over to The Story Siren to check out what others got in books this week!

Okay, I decided to do one even though I have a headache. (Better than doing schoolwork, hey?) This is an incomplete list as it does not include the books I bought from used bookstores. But then this post would be miles long and you'd all walk away from it halfway through. :)

Eon: Dragoneye Reborn by Alison Goodman
Ophelia by Lisa Klein

Eon: Dragoneye Reborn is about a girl who masquerades as a boy in order to study Dragon Magic, and Ophelia is a retelling of Hamlet from--who else?--Ophelia's point of view. Both of these sound so good. Don't you just love the 30% off Borders members coupons? :)

Fingersmith by Sarah Waters

In Victorian London, the orphaned Sue Trinder is raised by Mrs. Sucksby, den mother to a family of thieves, or "fingersmiths." To repay Mrs. Sucksby's kindness, Sue gets involved in a scam but soon regrets it.

This B&N description doesn't make it sound interesting, but I've heard so many good things about this book--good writing, plot, characters--that I'm going to give it a try.

Flygirl by Sherri L. Smith

"Careful research informs this story of a young woman struggling against racism and sexism to follow her dreams…A dynamic, heartfelt novel." - The Washington Post

Won this at a contest over at Taylor's blog. Thanks so much, Taylor!

One True Theory of Love by Laura Fitzgerald

A single mother, Meg, with her 9-year-old son Henry, attempts to pick up the pieces of her life after her love left her and she falls in love with an Iranian American man.

Got this from LibraryThing's Early Reviewers Member Giveaway program. This should be interesting.

You Are So Undead to Me by Stacey Jay
The Girl's Guide to Vampires by Barb Karg
Evermore by Alyson Noel

Won these books from Carrie's blog, her paranormal books giveaway. (This marks the second Evermore I've won somewhere or other. Will this be the end of the Evermore deluge?) These books sound cute.

The Shadow Within by Jenine Wilson

Jenine self-published this book but I've wanted to read this for a while. It's kind of paranormal and, um, that's all I remember about it. Whoops!

Broken Soup by Jenny Valentine

A strange boy hands Rowan a photo negative when she can least afford to pay it attention, after the tragedy that has recently befallen her. But when the boy and the photo are inexplicably linked to Rowan, everything changes.

Woot! I loved Jenny Valentine's debut novel, Me, the Missing, and the Dead, and have read great reviews of this one, so I'm super-excited to get a copy of this book. (P.S. It's being released in the US on March 24.)

Nights in Rodanthe by Nicholas Sparks

It's a Nicholas Sparks book. Need I say more? Plus, I stumbled in on the last half hour or so of this movie and was already bawling at the ending. Signs of a good story/movie.

Undercover by Beth Kephart
Prom Dates from Hell by Rosemary Clement-Moore
Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side by Beth Fantaskey

Got these from the library. Really excited to start on some of these. :)

And finally, I received Coraline by Neil Gaiman (not pictured) from Susan. Thanks, Susan! You should be getting yours soon, I hope.

  1. Great books! I think you'll like Gaiman. If you can, check out the author's audiobooks. He has an incredible voice. I wasn't an audio fan until listening to him. Not all books translate well in audio, but the combination of his voice and his storylines are perfect for this medium.

Sorry bout your headache as well and I totally get you on school work. This past week was my spring break and I hardly did any of my work. I did some last night and I'm gonna cram tonight for class bright and early tomorrow. *sigh* I really didn't miss school at all. Good luck though (=
