Waiting on Wednesday (79)

Girl, Stolen by April Henry

Sixteen year-old Cheyenne Wilder is sleeping in the back of a car while her mom fills her prescription at the pharmacy. Before Cheyenne realizes what's happening, their car is being stolen--with her inside! Griffin hadn’t meant to kidnap Cheyenne, all he needed to do was steal a car for the others. But once Griffin's dad finds out that Cheyenne’s father is the president of a powerful corporation, everything changes—now there’s a reason to keep her. What Griffin doesn’t know is that Cheyenne is not only sick with pneumonia, she is blind. How will Cheyenne survive this nightmare, and if she does, at what price? [summary from Goodreads]

I've heard fantastic things about this book, and it sounds like it could have similar vibes and themes to Stolen by Lucy Christopher: the kidnapping scenario, the power dynamics between the two, the main character's struggle to maintain her identity. Oh, and it's with a blind girl. I'm fascinated to see how descriptions will be done. Very excited about this one!

Girl, Stolen will be released in hardcover by Henry Holt & Co. on September 28, 2010.

  1. This book sounds very interesting and good. I would guess that things would be described in a different way than if the main character can see. As Cheyenne is blind I'm guessing that she would notice a great many things(sounds, smells etc) that people who can see usually overlook.

  2. I agree this sounds very good, and I don't think I've read a book with a blind MC before. None are coming to mind, anyway!

Can't wait to see a cover.

  6. What a set-up, eh? I'm very curious to see how it will be pulled off. I do usually shy away from books if I know ahead of time that they have a creepy factor, but this sounds intriguing. Nice pick!

  7. Definitely an intriguing idea for a story! The fact that she's blind is a fascinating twist. But am I only the only crazy punctuation freak who hates that exclamation point in the second sentence of the plot summary? It seems to lighten up a very serious situation, and almost makes it feel comical. Not the intent, I'm sure!
